Set Aside-

“There is something wonderfully sacred that happens when a girl chooses to realize that being set aside is actually God’s call for her to be set apart.”

-Lysa Terkeurst

“If we’re not careful, we can trade what could have been a meaningful, joyful, purposeful, and fully engaged life for fitting in, being accepted, or feeling like we are part of the crew.”

-Bob Goff

Daughters,

There is so much I want to say here, but I’m afraid it will come off too mom-ish. Picture me as a young girl myself, and know that what I’m saying here comes from that heart space.

I’ll start by saying that we all have the desire to fit in with our peers. We all get caught in trying to be someone else in order to fit in and feel good about ourselves sometimes. -Here’s a little secret, adults do too, moms especially  😉. For some reason, girls have a tendency to measure their worth by comparison. And I'm asking you both to be aware of this fault and to steer yourself in a different direction. To love yourself as is. To understand that you are beautiful and wonderfully made just as you are. If you can do that, that contentment will bring you the joy and meaningful life Bob is talking about. And you will automatically be that far ahead of your peers!

Please don’t fall into the trap of trying to be someone you are not, or waiting for a certain weight or age to feel worthy, loved, or accepted. I promise, there are others out there (beyond just your family) that you don’t have to be anyone else for; look for them (they are sometimes in the quiet, less flashy form and are always loyal). But continue to love yourself anyways. Right here. Right now.

Set yourself aside and you will be set apart in the most real and wonderful way. It won’t always be easy; but staying true to who you are and what fills your heart will surely be a meaningful, joyful, purposeful, and fully engaged life that you cannot get any other way,

Mom
